Biography

Originally from Chile, Marcelo Arroyo has been in Canada since the age of 8. Holding a Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Drama from UQàM (Université du Québec à Montréal, 1995), Arroyo pursued his studies at the National Theatre School of Canada, graduating in 2000.

Originally from Chile, Marcelo Arroyo has been in Canada since the age of 8. Holding a Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Drama from UQàM (Université du Québec à Montréal, 1995), Arroyo pursued his studies at the National Theatre School of Canada, graduating in 2000.

Skilled in French, English and Spanish, he has worked with several theatre directors and filmmakers in Montreal. On stage, Arroyo was of the cast of Pig Girl an Imago production presented at the Centaur Theatre, directed by Micheline Chevrier, as well as Talisman Theatre productions of That Woman and Down Dangerous Passes Road, both directed by Emma Tibaldo, also The Aeneid (a puppet extravaganza) directed by Zach Fraser —Dangerous… and The Aeneid are two award-winning productions. The Chilean-born actor has also worked in French with Daniel Paquette (Roméo et Juliette, Bérénice), André Brassard (Elle), Gervais Gaudreault (Salvador), Mani Soleymanlou (Trois) and Wajdi Mouawad (Rêves, tour in France). On screen, Arroyo has appeared in many important French Canadian TV series (Toute la Vérité, Nouvelle Adresse, Pure Laine). In 2008, he joined the cast of Tactik and continued in his role until 2013. Arroyo’s next appearance will be in the TV series based on Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience and in Crackle’s Art of More. 

 He is currently a member of Aluna Theatre’s Interpretation Lab, a workshop on simultaneously translating from Spanish to English (and vice versa), works of Latin American playwrights. Presently, Arroyo divides his time between Montreal and Toronto, auditioning for both theatre and film/tv.
